Terms & Conditions
These terms govern your use of MAIZU, the marketplace operated by MAIZU (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2026/446651/07 ("MAIZU", "we"). By creating an account or placing an order you agree to them.
1. What MAIZU is
MAIZU is an online marketplace. Independent sellers list physical products and buyers purchase them. MAIZU is not the seller of any item unless a listing says otherwise.
MAIZU is not a bank and does not hold customer money. All payments are processed by TradeSafe, a South African digital escrow provider, under its own terms. Shop payments are held in escrow until the buyer confirms receipt, or until 24 hours after the seller marks the order delivered with no problem reported; food from kitchens is paid to the kitchen when the buyer pays (see the Food rules).
2. Your account
You must be 18 or older, or have a parent or guardian's consent, and give accurate details. You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping your password secret.
Roles such as seller or administrator are granted by MAIZU only. They cannot be chosen at sign-up.
3. Prices and payment
Prices are set by sellers and shown in South African rand. The amount you pay is calculated by MAIZU at checkout from the seller's current price and delivery fee; it cannot be changed by your device.
A cart containing items from several stores is checked out as one order and one payment per store.
Payment is made to TradeSafe by card, Instant EFT or EFT. An order is only treated as paid once TradeSafe confirms the funds were received.
4. Delivery and receipt
Each seller arranges delivery, either by courier or in person, and enters the tracking information. Delivery times are the seller's estimate.
The buyer's confirmation of receipt completes an order and, for shop orders, releases payment to the seller. A seller marking an order as delivered is not confirmation on its own: the buyer is told at once and has 24 hours to report a problem. If the buyer neither confirms nor reports a problem within 24 hours of the seller marking it delivered, the order is treated as received and TradeSafe pays the seller. Reporting a problem at any time before then stops the payment.
5. Cancellations, issues and refunds
You may cancel an order before it is dispatched. A paid shop order cancelled before dispatch is refunded to you in full through TradeSafe. Once dispatched, report a problem instead. Orders that aren't paid within 48 hours (2 hours for food) are cancelled automatically. See the Returns & Refunds policy.
Your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 are not limited by these terms.
6. Conduct
You may not arrange payment outside MAIZU, share contact details to avoid the platform, list prohibited items, post misleading reviews or interfere with the service. Messages that attempt this are blocked automatically.
We may suspend accounts or stores that break these terms. Every administrative decision is recorded with a reason.
7. Liability
To the extent the law allows, MAIZU is not liable for the quality, safety or legality of items listed by sellers, or for losses arising from payments made outside the platform.
8. Changes and contact
We will notify you of material changes before they take effect. Questions: support@maizu.co.za. These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
